Since 2010, the Côteaux des Travers are in organic farming. This means that they no longer use chemical weed control, phytosanitary treatments are only done with sulphur and copper and a certified organic fertiliser (used occasionally if necessary).
As soon as they obtained the "organic farming" label, they began biodynamic farming in order to perpetuate the terroir and make it healthier. They are also part of a group created in 2010: Les Bio Dyn Dingues So, to demystify biodynamics with good intentions, motivation and always in a good mood!
50 % Grenache, 50% Mourvèdre
This wine is from very old vines (40-60 years old) with a small yield of 35hl/ha. The harvest is destemmed.
Domaine des Coteaux des Travers (Domaine of the Slopes of the Rising Sun) is in Rasteau, a little village in the Provence – Alpes – Côte d’Azur region of Vaucluse between Orange and Vaison la Romaine. The domain has been passed from father to son since 1920. Robert Charavin, currently at the helm, took over for his father, the first to bottle the domain’s wines in 1976.
In Rasteau, the soil is particularly rich in clay with an exceptionally sloped southern exposure. The vineyard of Cairanne is divided between sandy, clay and garrigue soils (rich in iron which give it a red colour).
The ageing process is 24-48 days with punching down allowing us to obtain a robust and aromatic wine.
A pretty purple-red dress. It develops a silky nose of black fruits and liquorice. Its palate is elegant, fine and smooth with black fruits and a hint of mentholated liquorice. This wine can be served with red meat.
Ideal Serving temperature
